Have I ever mentioned here on the blog how much I love Thai food? Yes... I know... it's quit evident with all the Thai recipes I constantly make. One of the favorite Thai restaurants always had this condiment available for adding extra spice to their dishes. I love it on a lot of other types of food too. Heck, I'll put it over plain rice to give it a spicy kick. It's super easy to make with a few ingredients so I always have it around.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup sliced Thai Chilies
1/4 cup fish sauce
2 Tbs fresh lime juice
2 tsp brown sugar
sliced scallions (optional)

Directions:
Slice chilies (seed if less spice is desired). Mix with all ingredients and serve with Thai dishes. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.
Note: Please be careful when handling spicy chilies. Do not touch your eyes/face without washing your hands very well.

Good Morning Ramona! This looks lovely (as usual!). Long time no "talk" to :D... I've been completely MIA. I hope all's been well and from the look of your blog archive, all has been! (Samoa Rice Krispies Treats?!?!??!?!?! MAMMA MIA!) HUGS!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love thai food...but I feel as though it doesn't love me Ramona! It's so spicy; it kicks my butt every time I try to eat it heehee. But I'm a sucker for Thai and this sauce looks fab :D

What I do for my friends that can't take the heat (make them get out of the kitchen!...JK) ...use less chilis, more fish sauce and add some rice vinegar to cut some saltiness. Salt tends to intensify the heat. Then use the liquid on your food and avoid the chilis. You'll get heat (not as much) and you won't have to bite into a piece of chili! LOL You'll still get a mouth burn but it shouldn't be quite as intense. Another thing is to mix slices of jalapeno, which is much milder, with the Thai chili. So more liquid, less chilis.
Deletelooks mouthwatering...just delicious!

I don't think so I had come across such a recipe before. In fact I don't remember eating a thai sauce called nam prik pla but here they have a similar condiment which my husband loves with fried rice. Thank you for sharing your recipe, can't wait to give it a go. =)
ReplyDeleteWe call it Nam Pla Prik
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I could handle any of this stuff, even though it looks amazing. My poor wimpy mouth couldn't handle it. Hope you have a great week, Ramona.
ReplyDeleteLove quick chili sauces like this - definitely going to have to give it a try when the chilies grow this spring =)
ReplyDeleteYou know me the hotter the better. I always put to much extra sauce on my Thai food to make it extra spicy. I just never know the names.
ReplyDeleteThis recipe has my husband written all over it! Love the idea of making it fresh!
ReplyDeleteMy family would love this, we have a thing for spicy food.
ReplyDeleteOh my mouth is on fire and loving it! This would be great with not just Thai food, but pretty much any vegetable stirfry. Talk about kicking it up a notch!
ReplyDeleteNice Thai Nam Prik Pla (Thai Fresh Chili Sauce/Condiment) blog ! Our family like spicy thai food. Thanks for the share.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually called 'Prik Nam Pla' or 'Nam Pla Prik' (we call it either way). Nam Pla is 'Fish Sauce'. Prik is 'Chili'.
