Hi!  My name is Ramona.  I started blogging back in 2011 on my blog called Curry and Comfort.  I created a blog because I love to cook and share recipes.  As of October 2015 Curry and Comfort changed into Kitchen Simmer.

I will do my best to post recipes with step by step photos so you can cook along with me.  I find cooking is much easier when it's all there visually for you to "look and cook".

Remember, all my recipes are adjustable.  Cook to your taste and substitute if necessary. I love spicy food, so if you are not much of a spicy food lover, adjust the spice and you can create a dish that is perfect for you.

All the recipes here on this blog are dishes/desserts and drinks that I make for my family and friends to eat and enjoy.  I love to cook dishes that inspire me so you will find a worldwide array of recipes.  If you like to be on a culinary adventure, please stop by and join me on my scrumptious journey.

Thanks for stopping by my little space on the internet!

Get to know the Cook: Here some more fun facts about me....
1.  I am a wife and stay at home mother of two little kids.

2.  When I think of home, I think of  a tropical island called Sri Lanka.

3.  I am crazy about spicy food!

4.  I enjoy scrapbooking and taking photos.

5.  I am currently using a point and shoot Kodak Easyshare z712 for all my photos.  I don't "edit" the photos so what you see in the food pictures on my blog is what came off my stove or out of my oven.   But I am keeping my fingers crossed that a Digital SLR is in my future. : )  **Update**  As of Sept 1. 2012:  I finally took the plunge and bought a Canon Rebel T3i.  Now I am in the process of learning to use it. I need to still invest in a good macro lens and some help with lighting.   I still use my Kodak for my step by step photos because those can be messy and I would not dare to get my beautiful new camera messy. :)

6.   I collect cookbooks.  At last count I have almost 400...My husband always wonders when the madness will end! But I love to read recipes.  Researching recipes is fun and inspiring to me.

7.  I am not a fan of cilantro.  I eat so many leafy greens... but cilantro is my kryptonite.  So you will never see the stuff in my recipes.  If you enjoy it, please add it to your dishes, I would never hold anyone back. : )

8.  I am a morning person.  I love to be up before the sun sometimes and feel like I have accomplished so much before the family gets up.

9.  I love the Spring and Fall Seasons... but could literally hibernate during winter!  Winter only inspires me to cuddle up, keep warm and make lots of soups.

10.  I love easy fake-out recipes and quick recipe tricks.  I love to get help from the store by using cake mixes and prepared  ingredients, but still get a great final result that  has my special take on it.

  2. Hi Ramona,

    Thanks for your recipes!
I am married to a Sri Lankan man and was unable to acquire any Sri Lankan'family recipes'my mother in law used to cook before her passing.
Your cutlet recipe tastes just like hers!
I just wanted to say thanks and my husband feels he is eating his mother's food.

  3. Hi

I started cooking recently and your recipes have been a live saver for me. I'm very new to this cooking thing and there are not many Sri Lankan recipes online with ingredients you can find away from Sri Lanka. I am currently living in the US and your recipes are really easy to make with the things I can find in the grocery stores here.

I'm learning to cook slowly but I'm still having trouble with coming up with daily menus, figuring out which food items go together.

Can you maybe do a weekly post on menu ideas? I'm sure there are others who would love the idea.

Thank you so much for the recipes.
    Wish you all the best.

    1. Hi Udari! Thank you for visiting. :) Gosh, I don't really make menus even for my family. I simply cook what I have on hand in the fridge/pantry and freezer most of the time.

If you are looking for ideas, I always start with what my base will be (rice, pasta/ bread etc). Then I decide on the meat of choice or if vegetarian what vegetable or bean I will use. Then I just cook.

When I make a rice and curry meal, I start with the rice, then have a spicy meat dish, mild curry (lentils, potatoes etc...) 1-2 semi-spicy veggie curries or a salad and veggie curry. Example: I would have white/brown rice with chicken curry, my basic mild lentil curry, green bean curry, kale mellun (kale and coconut pulse)and maybe a cucumber and onion salad. Then you can just adjust the meat/veggies curries as you desire from my listed recipes or your personal recipes. I hope that helps. :)
