Philly Steak Pizza with Homemade Cheez Whiz

Yum

What could be better than eating an Oreo Cookie, a Twinkie or a Hostess Chocolate Cupcake?  How about eating one made from scratch hot out of the oven.  I was given the cookbook, Classic Snacks Made From Scratch, written by Casey Barber to review and I  am crazy about this cookbook. I love being able to make cookies, cakey treats, cheesy snacks, ice cream treats and candies right in my own kitchen.  Making it yourself lets you know exactly what's going into them.  Today I made the super easy made from scratch Cheez-Whiz.  The "Whiz" is best known as the cheese of choice for the classic Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.  My kids love pizza, so I decided make a Philly Cheese Steak pizza to make it even more fun.

I did use some store bought Naan for this pizza, but you can just as easily use pizza dough or any store bought pizza crust.   The Cheez-Whiz also makes a great base for mac'n cheese, dips and much much more.

Classic Snacks Made from Scratch also has these wonderful recipes:

Nutter Butter Cookies
Animal Crackers
Entenmann's Donuts
Twinkies
Cheez-Its
Cheetos
Fritos
Funyuns
Klondike Bars
Fruit Roll ups

Recipe from Classic Snacks Made From Scratch Homemade Cheez-Whiz:

Ingredients:
4oz extra sharp Cheddar cheese
1 1/2 oz cream cheese
1/4 tsp granulated sugar
1/4 tsp mustard powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
1/2 cup whole or reduced fat milk

Directions:
Blend all ingredients except milk in food processor until smooth.  Bring milk to a gentle simmer and pour hot milk over blended cheese mixture.

To make my Philly Cheese Steak Pizza:
Ingredients:
Homemade Cheez-Whiz (per above recipe)
1/2lb lean steak cut into strips (against the meat grain)
1 green bell pepper cut into strips
1 medium onion cut into slices
salt and black pepper to taste
red chili flakes to taste
large pinch granulated garlic
Pizza base of choice (Naan, Boboli etc...)

Directions:
Prepare Homemade Cheez-Whiz per directions above. Set aside.  Slice Steak, bell pepper and onion.  Heat 1 Tbs canola oil in skillet and add steak when oil is hot.  Saute for 1-2 minutes.  Add bell pepper and onion with seasoning.  Saute until meat is cooked and the peppers and onions have soften to desired texture.

Apply Homemade Cheez-Whiz on pizza.  Top with steak/pepper/onion mixture.  Drizzle a little more Homemade Cheez-Whiz.  Bake in a 400 degree oven until crust is baked and cheese is bubbly (Time varies depending on crust).
