Banh Mi Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog #goodcookcom

Yum
The Stuffed Burger Contest is in full swing (don't forget to vote) and Good Cook gave me another wonderful item to try out.... the Bacon Press.  I have been celebrating a whole week here on the blog about my family's love of bacon.... so you know I am getting some fun use out of this bacon press.  I decided to think a little crazy and make bacon press hot dogs.  Oh... yes.  That's what I said.  I wrapped some bacon around an all-beef hot dog and grilled it to perfection on the cast iron skillet.  The press worked great by keeping the hot dogs in place and the bacon snugly tight so I could cook it completely around.

I then took it to another level by making my hot dog Banh Mi style (Vietnamese sandwich) and added a pickled slaw, fresh cucumbers, jalapenos and some sriracha on the hot dog.  Can I tell you... this was the BEST hot dog I have ever eaten in my life.  It was perfect on so many levels.  The bacon gave the hot dog a wonderful crunch and texture.  The slaw gave a nice balance of sweetness and tang.  The cucumbers gave freshness and crunch and then the jalapenos and sriracha finished it off perfectly with the spice I so love.

Thank you Good Cook for bringing this Bacon Press into my life... I am so imPRESSED!

The bacon press and the griddle I used are both cast iron.  Cast iron is a fantastic piece of cookware and it is something you can own for generations. Don't let seasoning and cleaning your cast iron cookware scare you off.  I simply scour with kosher salt and scrub brush.  Then I put the cleaned skillet on the stove top and heat it dry and wipe it down with some canola oil.  It's as simple as that.  Once you start cooking with cast iron, you will always have it on your stove or close by.   The Good Cook cast iron skillet rocks and pairing it up with the bacon press makes it even better. I am so excited about all the fun meals that I am going to imPRESS you with soon. :)

  7. Forget chocolate strawberries, steaks and heart shaped eggs! The way to a guy's heart is through this Banh Mi Bacon wrapped hot dog. This is a little piece of heaven wrapped in bacon and broccoli slaw. This is definitely going on our menu as a regular meal! Instead of frying dogs, we baked in the oven leaving us time to make the slaw and some spicy fries. My daughter added a quick pickled cucumber salad as a garnish. Mmmm
