Spiced Hot Chocolate

Yum

Brrrr.... it's been cold outside lately.  My kids asked me for some hot chocolate so I decided to have some fun with it by adding some spiced flavors.  This was some rich and delicious hot chocolate that had my kids giving me high-fives.  Of course that can also be for all the mini marshmallows I added too.

Ingredients:
2 cups milk (I used 2%... but whole is fine)
1/3 cup chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet or you can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate)
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves
2 green cardamoms pods
sugar (if needed... I used no sugar)
garnish (optional): marshmallows

Directions:
Heat milk, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamoms on low heat on the stove for 10 minutes or until milk is well heated.  Stir occasionally.   Once milk is heated, add chocolate chips and stir well.  Strain hot chocolate into heat proof container.  ** Straining is an important step to make sure you have a smooth drink and you can easily discard all the spices easily. Pour into mugs and garnish with marshmallows if desired.  Serve Hot.  Enjoy.

  1. Beautiful pictures, Ramona! I'm down with a sore throat and runny nose and I so wish someone made this hot chocolate for me right now.

  5. Hot chocolate makes me so happy. I haven't used cardamom pods before nor do I think I have had cardamom and chocolate together. I will be checking this out soon.
