Pillsbury Pizza Pretzels (Throwback Thursday Series)

Yum

My original photo on 11-2011
On 11-18-2011 I wrote: I got this idea for pizza pretzels from the Pillsbury site.  It was such an easy and fun looking recipe that I knew the little ones would love helping me in the kitchen.   I was right, because my kids had such a fun time making these pretzels and  layering the pizza ingredients inside.   The entire family loved eating them (what's not to love it's a big pretzel with pizza filling inside).  You can play around with this recipe and make it vegetarian, fill it with other filling like cream cheese and veggies.  The possibilities are endless with this simple method.   I will definitely be experimenting with this recipe again and again. If you have kids I really recommend you to try it.  If you don't have kids and are just a big kid at heart you'll love it too. : )

Note:  Throwback Thursday is a new series where I take some of my original posts here on  Curry and Comfort and redo them so I can take better photos.

Ingredients:
To make 4 giant pizza pretzels you will need:
1 canister Pillsbury pizza dough (I recommend regular not thin crust)
6 sticks of string cheese
Some Pepperoni slices
Some jar tomato sauce for dipping

Directions:
Roll out your pizza dough on a surface you can cut on
Cut the dough into four strips (from side to side) The easiest way to do this is to cut the dough into half and then each half into half again.
Place pepperoni slices along each strip of dough
Place string cheese along the length of the dough. You will want to cut the string cheese into half (lengthwise). So you will use 6 sticks but place 12 total for your four strips.

Roll up the sides of each dough strip over pepperoni and cheese, and tightly seal together. You will need to stretch dough as necessary to fully enclose the cheese and pepperoni. Then pinch the ends to seal.

Form into your desired pretzel shape. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and place pretzels to bake.

To top the pretzel you will need:

Some grated parmesan cheese
1 Tbs olive oil
white sesame seeds (optional)

Brush each pretzel with olive oil and sprinkle parmesan cheese/sesame seed topping over each pretzel.

Bake at 425 degrees for 13-17 minutes. Mine were done at 15 minutes. Enjoy with your favorite pizza/spaghetti sauce for dipping.
