Here we are with one week left in the month of August. Before you know it we will be celebrating Halloween and gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Okay, maybe I'm jumping a little far ahead so I'll try to enjoy these last few weeks of summer. The weather has finally cooled down enough that I can be outside without melting. School is going to start in a week and I'm already hearing the grumbles of very tired children not wanting to get up early. Oh Well. :)
This week I posted three recipes my mother helped me make. I can't pick a favorite because I love them all. I'm hoping my mother will to come again this week so she can help me make one more variety of vadai and a few other Sri Lankan dishes. There are so many Sri Lankan dishes that she is the expert on so I'm busily trying to document all of them before she finally tells me she's tired of cooking with me. Well, I hope that never happens. I really enjoy my cooking days with her and my kids, niece and nephew join the fun most of the time too. It's nice to see the next generation getting involved and making some memories with her in the kitchen as she passes the culinary torch to us.
In my eyes cooking is more than just food and nutrition. It's also a way of feeding our souls and that's what I love about all of us being in the kitchen and getting our hands dirty and then sitting down and digging into a feast of delicious food. So the next time you sit down to eat a meal... look around the table and feed your soul as well as your body.
Have a great week everyone!!
