Spicy Ketchup

Yum

My kids love ketchup. I always have to have a bottle of the store brand stuff in my fridge at all times.  That's until my mother showed me how to make this spicy homemade ketchup.  Now my son won't even look at the store bought brand anymore.  We put this ketchup on burgers, hot dogs, french fries and basically everything you want ketchup on and it gives everything a spicy kick.  I would eat it straight off a spoon... yes... it's that good.

 Ingredients:
1 (28oz) can of crushed tomatoes
1 cup white sugar
2/3 cup vinegar
2 Tbs ginger
2 Tbs garlic
2-3 Tbs red chili powder
2 Tbs salt
1 medium onion  chopped

Directions:
Place all ingredients (except for crushed tomatoes) into food processor and blend until smooth.  Then add mixture and the crushed tomatoes on medium heat in sauce pan. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.  Taste and adjust as desired.  Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for a month.  Enjoy.

  1. Hi Ramona - it's been forever since I've stopped by in the blogging world. This ketchup sounds fantastic, I have been looking to make my own ketchup but I've been to lazy - this sounds manageable and I love the spicy factor! I think I will have to make a Malt Vinegar version too...I love mixing ketchup and malt vinegar together!!!
