Boo-licious Haunted House with Sweet Creations by Good Cook and Giveaway #goodcookcom

Yum
Boo!! Did my Gingerbread Haunted House give your a fright?  It may be a little more "cute: than scary... but it all tastes good.   Sweet Creations by Good Cook gave me a very fun gingerbread Haunted House Cookie Cutter Set to make this house.  My kids were giddy with excitement when we got the package.  All the cutters are very sturdy and easy enough that my kids could help.  The smell of gingerbread filled our house and we couldn't wait until the next day when I gave the go ahead to start decorating the house.    I am not a cake decorator and I really don't have much skill with a piping bag... so I did the best I could with lots of frosting and Halloween candy.  My kids love how it turned out and this gingerbread haunted house is definitely going to be a new tradition at our house every October for Halloween.

Ingredients:
Recipe courtesy of Sweet Creations by Good Cook
1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
1 large egg yolk beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups all purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/3 cup molasses
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp baking soda

Royal Icing to make gingerbread walls adhere:

Decorations:
Ghost Marshmallow Peeps
Candy Corn
Candy Corn Pumpkins
Halloween sprinkles
Oreo Cookies (roof)
Pretzels (window and doorway)
Frosting (store-bought) coating the gingerbread house and acts as the "glue" for all decorations.

Directions
Make gingerbread dough and knead on a floured surface until dough is not longer sticky.  Chill in fridge (not too long or it will be hard to roll out). Roll dough out thin.  Carefully measure out how to cut your pieces for the gingerbread house. You will need two large pieces for the front and back of the gingerbread house, two side walls and four pieces for the roof.  Bake on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet in a 325 oven  for 12-18 minutes until edges are brown.  Allow pieces to cool (I did this overnight).

***Full directions are on Sweet Creations by Good Cook Haunted House Box.

Make royal icing for adhering the walls.  Use a support to keep walls up so until they have time to dry.  I used tall drinking glasses.  Allow walls joints time to dry.   Put roof pieces on and allow to dry.  Then decorate as you desire.  Enjoy.
