I can never eat prepared Pico de Gallo because it always has cilantro. Yes, that's right, I am not a fan of cilantro. I wish I could eat it, but it just does not taste right in my mouth so I steer clear of most salsas. It totally bums me out since I love tomatoes, onions and jalapenos. If I want to eat Pico de Gallo... I better make it on my own at home. It's so simple to make and so perfect with chips or even as a topping on chicken or fish. Tomatoes are totally are in season so it's a perfect time of the year to make this salsa today... and maybe even every day.
Ingredients:
2-3 large firm tomatoes
1 medium onion (red or white)
2-4 jalapenos to taste
juice of one lime or more to taste
salt to taste
Directions:
Finely dice tomatoes, onions and jalapenos. Season with lime juice and salt. Taste and adjust as necessary. Serve with chips or as a topping for meat. Enjoy.

Someone told me it is not an acquired taste...cilantro...but something you either will like or not and that it is genetics! LOL Who knows? I am not a huge fan of cilantro either. I can eat though in some things. Looks good, Ramona.
ReplyDeleteYou've really surprised me, Ramona. I thought that you were the queen of strong and/or exotic flavors. Oh well, I don't like goat cheeses--any of them. I also can't eat a certain variety of pine nuts from China because they leave a lingering bitter taste in my mouth for up to two weeks after eating them. It only happens in certain people and is also genetic. One of my daughters has the same problem.
ReplyDeleteI can take or leave cilantro. My list of things I wanted to make this summer was long and I've decided some just won't happen. Pico de Gallo will!!!
